Water is one of the most essential utility that we use. We use water in so many different ways in our daily routine, we use in the bathroom, washing dishes, washing clothes, cooking, cleaning, etc and most important of all for drinking.

Not a day can go by without us drinking water to maintain our levels of hydration and productiveness. As it is such an important part of our lives, we should take considerable measure to conserve it.

The Victorian Government has come up with an initiative named Target 155 to help us stay on track with our water conservation every day. We should aim at keeping our water consumption below 155 litres per day per person. Our monthly water bills should clearly indicate how we are doing in regards to our Target 155.

Now how to we achieve this?

In our kitchens:

  • Use a water efficient dishwasher and use it in the economy option
  • Scraping our dishes instead of rising under running water
  • Running the dishwasher on a full load
  • Use a plug while thawing and also half fill the sink while soaking dishes
  • Use a responsible water filter to filter your drinking water

In our showers:

  • Cutting down our showers to 4 mins can save considerable litres of water
  • Install a 3 star water saving shower head
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
  • Use a bucket to catch water while the shower warms up and use it for the garden
  • Do not flush the toilet unnecessarily nor flush in tissues and other rubbish

In our laundry:

  • Reuse grey water in the garden
  • Use a water efficient washing machine - front loaders consume far less water than top loaders
  • Sorting our clothes and washing full loads also saves water

To further achieve our goals in saving water, we can order a free water saver kit which contains tips on how to save water indoors, outdoors, a 4-minute shower timer and water-saving hose connector for our garden.

You can order it online here.

We should all join forces to do our part to save our water!
